Review: The Very Bad Book

The well-known and highly successful Griffiths-Denton partnership have done it again.

Created an hilarious, sure-to-be-popular collection of poems, cartoons, jokes and mini-stories, that is.

Some are based on classic poems (“Mary had a very bad lamb, its fleece was black as tar. It smoked and drank and stayed up late at its favourite all-night baa.”) and some are original concepts.

All of them, though, involve clever, quirky ideas and plays on language that kids – even the more reluctant readers – enjoy and relate to.

Although, perhaps a warning is necessary: this is not a book for the faint-hearted or people prone to queasiness, or those who love nothing but a happy ending.

Then again, perhaps those people could do with a healthy (if grotty) dose of a Very Bad Book.
